Dog owner denies four charges of animal cruelty

Richard Geoffrey Le Tiec (65), of Green Street, denies four charges of animal cruelty. He is alleged to have swung the dog, named Gizzy, on its lead, grabbed it by the scruff of the neck, cruelly dragged it and also kicked the animal. He also faces two separate charges of allowing the dog to run free in places where it should have been on a lead.

The trial is due to start on 15 June.

It is alleged that on 6 January near the junction of Route du Fort and Roseville Street, the defendant ‘cruelly dragged and swung’ his dog while it was on its lead.

On 20 January in Green Street it is alleged that the defendant ‘cruelly dragged and kicked’ the animal, and on 1 February in the Guardian Medical Centre in Savile Street, Mr Le Tiec is alleged to have ‘cruelly dragged and grabbed his dog by the scruff of the neck’. Two weeks later in York Street the defendant allegedly ‘cruelly kicked his dog’.

Meanwhile, he is alleged to have not had the dog on its lead on 1 February in the Parade and on 8 February on Rue Le Masurier.

As well as the alleged animal cruelty offences, Mr Le Tiec is also facing a separate trial in the Magistrate’s Court for a number of allegations of public order offences. It is alleged that on 2 December last year in Don Street he used threatening or abusive words or behaviour that could be heard and seen by others that were likely to cause harm or distress.

He is alleged to have behaved in a similar manner while he was a passenger in a taxi on 15 December last year.

And on 17 January this year at the offices of the Employment and Social Security Department in La Motte Street he is again alleged to have used threatening or abusive language.

He is alleged to have committed a number of similar offences at other locations.

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu remanded the defendant in custody until 27 April.
