Brewer helps Island toast the royal couple

But not content with the thought of Islanders supping a standard pint to mark the occasion, Liberation Brewery has set about creating its very own ale – with a tongue-in-cheek reference to the prince’s famous fiery locks.

Meghan Sparkle Celebration Ale – With a Hint of Ginger will be available in Jersey and Guernsey as well as some parts of the UK from 30 April until 19 May – the day that the couple say ‘I do’ at Windsor Castle.

Pat Dean, head brewer, was tasked with creating the ale and enough has been brewed to allow 4,000 people to raise a glass.

‘Lots has been happening in the craft beer industry,’ Mr Dean said. ‘With Meghan coming from America we thought it would be a good idea to blend British hops with American. And we thought it would want a bit of ginger – just a hint – alluding to the hair colour.’

The American hops used within the 4% ABV ale are mosaic and citra, while the British hops are fuggles and goldings. The hops have been brewed with Maris Otter and chocolate malt.

Tim Hubert, managing director of Liberation Brewery, said: ‘At the beginning of the year we always have a sit-down and discuss what beers we could brew for any upcoming special events. The wedding will be a big thing in the pubs. People will get behind them [Prince Harry and former Suits actress Ms Markle] over the next couple of weeks as the wedding gets closer and closer. I think we are proud to be British over here. We’ve had quite a lot of interest already.’

And have they sent a cask over for the royal couple to enjoy?

‘We would like to but I’ll wait for my invitation to the wedding first,’ Mr Hubert said.
