Warm weather forecast – is summer on the way?

Temperatures are then expected to rise to 18°C on Tuesday, with the warm weather lingering for most of the week.

And Peter Munns, duty forecaster for Jersey Met, also said that according to statistics, the Island was also due some drier weather for the rest of the month.

‘We had 17.5°C on 6 April, so anything within the 17.6°C category average could mean the warmest day of the year so far,’ he said.

‘It is normally around 13°C or 14°C at this time of year, so if the forecasts are correct it could be about 4°C above average.

‘There is a deep low-pressure area anchored in the Atlantic and high pressure over the continent, with a warm southerly flow.

‘If you combine that with some sunshine, then it should start to warm up very nicely.’

He added: ‘The average amount of rainfall for April is 56.2 mm and so far this month we have had 45.2 mm, so we are due some dry weather for the rest of the month.’

However, the forecast high temperature is still some way off hitting the record monthly maximum.

On 16 April 2003 the mercury rose to 26°C. And during the same year, the temperature soared to the highest ever recorded in Jersey at 36°C on 9 August.

However, Mr Munns added that it was still too far in advance to make a prediction about what was in store for summer.

‘The detail is just not consistent enough yet to say if it is going to be hot, cold, wet, windy or otherwise,’ he said. ‘Even with regards to next weekend it is too difficult to say.’
