Minister secures a third term as the St Martin Deputy

And he has previously revealed that if re-elected he will seek to retain his ministerial job.

The Deputy, who said before the nomination meeting he had heard rumours of a potential challenge for the parish’s single Deputy’s seat, was first elected in 2011 and then again in 2014.

His nomination was proposed by lawyer Tim Herbert, who said that Deputy Luce, whom he had known since school, was hard-working, a good listener and a team player, could make decisions and had energy and commitment.

Deputy Luce told parishioners that helping with the new St Martin’s Primary School project had been a highlight of his term, and that he looked forward to focusing on the transformation of the old school – which sits next to the parish’s public hall – into a community hub.

Addressing the packed public hall, Deputy Luce said: ‘I wake up every morning grateful that I’m able to live in St Martin.

‘I will never forget that I’m your Deputy first and that everything else comes second.

‘I’d like to thank everybody for having the confidence in me to carry on.’

He also thanked his family, adding: ‘The job that politicians do these days is never easy and if I didn’t have some sense and sensibility back home it would be very much more challenging.’
