Visiting UK family try to find missing dog

Monty, a whippet, disappeared from a Gorey garden on Tuesday and his family fear that as he has not yet been found despite extensive searches he may have been taken by somebody.

Franchesca Collins said that Monty, who was owned by her parents, was in the Island because the family were house-sitting for her sister.

The family, who were due to leave Jersey this weekend, are now offering a £600 reward for anyone who finds the white, brindle and grey eight-month-old whippet.

‘He was accidentally let out by the cleaner at the house,’ Miss Collins said. ‘He was playing with my sister’s dog and I think he followed him and couldn’t find his way back.

‘We are so sad. Everyone is really worried now. It is going to get cold.’

The family, who have since reported Monty’s disappearance to the police, the Coastguard and the JSPCA, said they could not believe the response of Islanders who have helped search for him.

‘Loads of people have been amazing by looking for him,’ Miss Collins said. ‘We posted it on Jersey Dog Forum on Facebook and people have been helping to search, mostly in the east around Gorey and St Martin.

‘It’s strange that he has not been found. There is a chance that someone has him.’
