Constable Chris Taylor presented the plans and another set of proposals for a car park and public gardens to a parish assembly on Wednesday night.
Between 120 and 130 people attended and the voting was by a show of hands. The first-time-buyer and play facilities development was approved by 107 to 17, and 121 were in favour of creating the car park and gardens, with three votes cast against.
Mr Taylor said: ‘The parish is delighted that the schemes were so well supported, and we are also delighted that the parish can now move forward to a more prosperous future.
‘The assembly went well and was conducted in an amicable manner.
‘Naturally there were concerns expressed by a number of people who will be affected by the application for the homes because they will be looking straight onto the new development.
‘We shall be organising a meeting with them to ensure that their concerns are heard so there is a suitable boundary to maintain their privacy.’
Mr Taylor says the next step is to draw up detailed plans to submit to Planning for both projects. However, before that can happen a traffic survey has to be undertaken, which is expected to take up to four weeks to complete. If approved, the 16 three-bedroom first-time-buyer houses and sports field will be built on Field 525 in Rue de la Mare Ballam, to the south of St John’s School.
The public gardens and 60-space car park will take up about a third of the agricultural field opposite St John’s Church. This scheme also involves moving the war memorial into the gardens so Rue des Buttes, the lane leading to the school, can be widened and pavements created to improve road safety.
