Competition to find woman of the year 2018

Competition to find woman of the year 2018

The winner of this year’s Barclays Inspirational Woman of the Year will be announced at a breakfast event to be held on 8 March – International Women’s Day.

She will be selected by a judging panel, after being assessed against a specific set of criteria. Nominees will be judged on whether they have demonstrated a selfless contribution to the community, made a significant difference to an individual or group, led others to achieve greatness or been a role model for future generations.

Last year’s winner was Susan Kelly, who had been the treasurer of Jersey Mencap for more than 25 years. As in previous years the event is being staged in aid of the Jersey Women’s Refuge.

Marine Oliviera, from the charity, said: ‘All genders can feel anchored to traditional roles, rather than following their true vocation. An event like this presents an opportunity to discuss what change can look like and how and when equality can be achieved.’

The award breakfast, which is being held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, will be hosted by Peter McLinton and will include a panel of invited guests who will discuss key issues such as the benefits of gender equality and how we can all empower the next generation.

Nomination forms can be obtained online from jerseywomensrefuge.org or Barclays’ Library Place branch. The closing date for submissions is 23 February.

Tickets for the award breakfast can be bought online at 365tickets.je/international-women-s-day-breakfast.
