Le Rocquier ambassadors have the edge when it comes to life skills

The Year 10 students were presented with their PiXL Edge apprentice-level qualifications by PiXL associates Karen Collins and Amanda Fleck this week. They will also act as ambassadors for the scheme locally.

More than 1,500 schools around the country are members of the scheme, but Le Rocquier is the first in Jersey to join.

The programme, which is aimed at students aged four to 18, progresses through seven levels and focuses on developing five attributes chosen following consultation with employers: leadership, organisation, resilience, initiative and communication.

As ambassadors, the Le Rocquier students – Joseph Hills, Reece Paton, Jared Dingle, Kitty Fletcher, Megan Buckley, Emilia Sheehan and Elizabeth Appleton – will now help to introduce PiXL Edge to Year 7 and Year 8 students at the school.

Deputy head teacher Andrea Banks, who introduced PiXL Edge to the school initially, said Le Rocquier had started the programme with a small number of students and was now rolling it out for all in years seven to ten.

She added that the students recognised this week had gained many skills along the way, and said they had particularly grown in confidence.

‘We believe our students are so much more than “just” the certificates of academic achievement that they leave us with and PiXL Edge allows them to gain official recognition of this,’ she said. ‘I am very proud of the students’ achievements and the positive way in which they represent Le Rocquier School.’

In order to earn their certificates, the students had to complete two activities for the core attributes from a choice of thousands. The activities range from one-off events such as public speaking in an assembly, to those that take a term to complete, including attending regular football training sessions.
