Tamba Park to cut its opening hours

Tamba Park to cut its opening hours

The news that Tamba Park is to close for two out of seven days has been met with a mixed response online from families, who were given just four days’ notice of the change before it came into effect.

However, park owner Jonathan Ruff said that the move was needed to ensure that he could keep investing in the park and donating the maximum amount possible to the charity, Ruff’s Kitchens, which the business supports to feed schoolchildren in Zimbabwe.

He said that reducing opening hours had been chosen in favour of pushing up the cost of the park’s annual membership, which will remain at £120 per year for five people.

The ten per cent discount on food, drinks and items in the park shop enjoyed by members has also been scrapped because Mr Ruff said it was costing the business too much. Members will instead get free use of the crazy golf course and will be offered half-price lake activities.

Writing on the park’s Facebook page, he said that 2018 was going to be an ‘exciting year’ at Tamba Park with new additions and plenty of events planned.

He added: ‘I hope you approve [of] or at least understand the changes we are making to the park’s operations. Even with these changes the park is amazing value and it’s only going to get better.’

The park will open on bank holiday Mondays and will run seven days a week during school holidays.

Replying to the news online, Islander Louise Stent said: ‘Only day off I had was a Monday with my kids. Shame. Island already so limited. Nothing to do with kids over here.’

Nick Dietmar Perchard-Rees added: ‘Totally understand why you need to look at the set up and make efficiencies for the good of the park and it’s continued operation going forward. Personally gutted though as Mondays are my day off and loved spending them with my little boy at the park.’

Backing the park’s decision, however, was Jessica Thompson, who said: ‘100% behind this. It’s a charity and personally I feel the only good place to spend hours with your children, good value for money! People should be grateful they have this entertainment on the Island.’
