Trevor the female seal pup ‘still weak’

The pup, which was named when it was thought to be male, was discovered at L’Etacq at the end of last month. Both Trevor and a pup called Temperance, which was found in Guernsey’s Beaucette Marina, are receiving treatment in the GSPCA’s intensive care unit.

GSPCA manager Steve Byrne said both were ‘doing as well as we can hope’.

‘It’s still early days and both are still extremely thin but slowly growing in strength. The pups continue on rehydration fluid
feed and are under heat lamps and intensive care at the GSPCA.

‘Both have seen the vet and are on a number of treatments including antibiotics and wormers, and we continue to do all we can for them as they are still very weak.

‘Both seal pups are severely emaciated, dehydrated and suffering from slight pneumonia with a number of other injuries,’ he said.

This week the centre ordered 200 kilograms of mackerel and herring for the pups and issued an
appeal for donations from the public.
