Council of Ministers to cover for ill colleague

Senator Philip Bailhache was taken seriously ill during Monday’s Assize d’Heritage – a ceremony to mark the start of the legal year during which advocates renew their oaths.

On Tuesday, a States spokesman said that Sir Philip’s illness was a matter for him and his family and that there would be no further updates on the former Bailiff’s condition.

‘Our priority is for Sir Philip to return to full health, and to have the space and privacy to do so,’ the spokesman said.

‘The Chief Minister and Council of Ministers will ensure that the matters in his ministerial portfolio are covered and that the important work of the Ministry of External Relations continues in his absence.’

He added that the department would provide no further comment at this time.
