Promotional motoring film raises conservation concerns

Earlier this month three vehicles were driven to Seymour Tower by staff from the Mansell Collection at First Tower.

Although managing director Leo Mansell says they had permission and strict guidelines to follow, the footage was edited to give the impression that a race had taken place.

The film can be seen on the garage’s Facebook page, followed by more than 110 comments, most of which are favourable.

Nonetheless, some raise concerns that beach regulations were flouted and the vehicles had damaged the marine environment.

Environment Minister Steve Luce confirmed that the film makers had permission from Economic Development, which is responsible for administering the Island’s beach use regulations, including vehicle movements.

However, the minister added that unfortunately the final footage was edited to give the impression of a race using different routes.

Mr Mansell, who drove one of the vehicles, says the film was designed to show off the beauty of Jersey.

‘We had all the relevant permissions from Environment and we had a meeting with them before shooting about what we could, and could not do, and where we were permitted to go and could not go,’ he said.
