Murder investigation

A 57-year-old man, who detectives say was known to the woman, was arrested on suspicion of killing her and detained in a cell at police headquarters on Route du Fort overnight.

Detective Superintendent Stewart Gull, head of Crime Services for the force, said officers were keeping an ‘open mind’ as to how many people may have been involved.

The woman was found dead by paramedics at 10 Victoria Street, near St Thomas’ Church, at around 10.50 am yesterday. Det Supt Gull said there were ‘other parties’ living in the home and the force were treating three people in particular as ‘key and significant witnesses’. He would not be drawn on their ages or their relationship to the dead woman but confirmed that they were not being held at the police station.

Anyone with any information or who may have seen or heard something suspicious on Victoria Street between 9 am on Monday and noon on Tuesday is asked to call the States police major incident room on 612927 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
