Refugee: ‘Ignore the racist comments’

The Iraqi teenager has accepted that there will always be people who will be negative towards him and his two fellow refugee performers, but they must be ignored.

Zana Ali (19) is one of three refugees who arrived in the Island this week to take part in a performance based around Jersey’s response to the refugee crisis and his comments come after the States police said they were investigating posts published on Facebook ahead of the trio’s visit to the Island.

Ahead of the play, which started last night, a number of Islanders took to social media to voice their opinions on the men’s visit. One man wrote ‘Shoot them job done!’ while others suggested Islanders should ‘lock up their daughters’.

Home is due to be performed for the second night this evening at the Arts Centre from 7 pm.

Read his comments in Wednesday’s JEP.
