Child sex attacker jailed for ‘sustained and serious’ sexual abuse

Jose Angelo Da Silva (59) was jailed by the Superior Number of the Royal Court – which only convenes for Jersey’s most serious of cases – for four years on Wednesday and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five after admitting three counts of indecent assault against a young girl. The offences, which were committed a decade ago, only came to light this year.

The States police said in a statement that Da Silva had committed ‘sustained and serious sexual abuse’.

‘He was clearly only interested in satisfying his own sexual gratification and gave no thought or consideration to the abuse that he was subjecting his young victim to,’ the statement read.

‘The victim has shown incredible courage in reporting what had happened to her and since the initial disclosure has shown strength and commitment in supporting this investigation.’
