Jersey Post to assist with 'clearing' customs

News | Published:

STATES-owned company Jersey Post is moving into the customs brokerage business after buying Heathrow-based company HICS Worldwide.

Jersey Post say they plan to employ all five HICS staff and that there will be no redundancies at either of the companies. The value of the sale has not been disclosed.

Customs brokerage involves the 'clearing' of goods through customs barriers for importers and exporters.

HICS Worldwide provides direct import customs clearance facilities at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester airports to the general public, freight and courier agents and retail companies. It also operates a delivery service after customs clearance has been made. The company has been in business for 28 years.

Chief executive Tim Brown said: 'The trend and preference for online shopping continues to grow, with individuals now seeking to shop globally. Jersey Post sees international customs clearance as a critical enabler for the successful provision of worldwide, end-to-end, cross-border solutions.
