David Le Quesne, chief executive of the Randalls pub group, which The Royal is part of, said that following the retirement of current manager John Barker in the new year there were also plans to refurbish the bar.
Mr Le Quesne said that the pub group hoped to lodge plans for three flats – two two-beds and one one-bed – in the middle of next year.
If approved the flats, which will be built in the roof space that used to house a restaurant, will be available on long-term rental leases.
In the meantime, the pub is due to be closed during the first week of January while minor refurbishment work is carried out to the bar. Further redecoration is expected to take place at the end of next year.
