Possible internet and telephone disruption

However, JT customers are still being warned of possible disruption to internet and phone services after the three underwater cables, which are each 100 miles apart, were damaged over a five-hour period on Monday evening.

The company’s connections are now being diverted through a single link with France and the firm says that there could be some impact on its services, particularly during peak times.

It is hoped that one of the cables will be repaired by early next week, depending on the weather and the extent of the damage. Another ship is on its way from France to repair the second cable and the third damaged cable will be repaired after that.

One of the cables is wholly owned by JT, while the other two are part-owned by JT, Sure and BT in the UK.
