St Clement float ‘in jeopardy’ for first time in 58 years, committee warns

The marquee at the showground, where the parish have built their float since 2011, is due to be removed next year and replaced with a permanent building.

The parish, who this summer won the Prix d’Excellence for their Go West-themed float, say they now need to find a home before they have to submit their entry application in the middle of January or they will be unable to enter the competition.

Graham Gibson, committee secretary, said: ‘Our group has always been homeless in a sense, as we have never had access to our own building. It’s highly unlikely that we will be able to use the permanent structure at the showground moving forward.’

St Clement spend on average £25,000 each year and do not want to commit to next year’s event before they find a permanent home.
