Governor: Your politicians deserve much more respect

As General Sir John McColl enters his final few days in office following five years in the role, he has today praised Jersey’s ‘extraordinary’ voluntary sector and its strong support for the Armed Forces, which he says is intrinsically linked with the Island’s Occupation experience.

In an interview published on page ten of today’s JEP, he also says that, thanks to the appointment of the Island’s first External Relations Minister, a department to back up the minister and the establishment of a Jersey office in London, the Island’s relationship with the UK during his tenure has dramatically improved.

And, having sat in the States, Sir John has said that it is his opinion that there is too much personal criticism in Jersey politics.
