Anthony Head, who played Buffy’s mentor, Rupert Giles, in the American series, tweeted a link to the petition to save Mr Bronx – a dog that was seized by Customs in February after officers suspected that it might be a pitbull.

The animal, which has been kept in kennels at the JSPCA for almost ten months since, was last week deemed to be a pitbull terrier by the Petty Debts Court, leaving it with an uncertain future.

Mr Head, who has also appeared in The Inbetweeners Movie, The Iron Lady – about the life of Margaret Thatcher – Lady Chatterley’s Lover and on stage in Little Britain Live, tweeted a link to the petition to his more than 154,000 followers.
