Abuse of Island women via social media ‘on rise’

The charity has said that it is continually having to adapt the way in which it supports women affected by domestic abuse on sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Marie Vibert, a newly appointed fundraiser for the charity, said: ‘We have certainly seen social media increasingly being used as a channel to abuse our clients directly and manipulate perceptions or illicit responses from the online circle of “friends”.

‘It can unfortunately be a powerful weapon to continue and escalate abuse and we see an uplift in its use post-separation, when other access routes to our clients have been cut off.’
