120 parents of nursery-age children find work

Last year Social Security Minister Susie Pinel lodged a proposition to make several reforms to Jersey’s income support system, which provides welfare payments for less well-off Islanders.

Among her proposals was one for parents receiving benefits to be required to look for part-time work when their child turns four and becomes eligible for 20 hours of free nursery education each week.

The measures were overwhelmingly approved by the States. Shortly beforehand the Social Security Department warned claimants that their benefits could be stopped or reduced for up to six weeks, if they refused to look for work under the revised policy.

Employers who have any roles which may be suitable for this new group of candidates should call Back to Work Recruitment on 447411 or email backtowork@gov.je
