Surge in the number of missing-children cases

Between January and June reports of missing children rose by 89 per cent compared with the previous year, the JEP has learned.

During this six-month period there were 245 missing children cases, 162 of which involved youngsters in residential care.

A missing-person case costs an average £1,300 to investigate.
