Xano (8) on the mend thanks to pioneering cancer therapy

Alexandre De Sousa, known as Xano, seems like any other happy and healthy eight-year-old boy but aged just five he was diagnosed with advanced neuroblastoma – an aggressive childhood cancer.

Xano was given a 40 per cent chance of survival and his mum, Sonia Basilio, is convinced that he would not be alive today without the pioneering immunotherapy treatment he received at Southampton Hospital.

It was initially thought the centre would cost the NHS Trust £1.3 million but an extra £550,000 is now needed. This additional cost has been part-funded by the Southampton Hospital Charity but a further £150,000 is needed to meet the appeal’s target and Islanders are urged to support the refurbishment.
