Summer jobs dry up for school-age teenagers

There are fears that the shift in the availability of summer jobs could deny some younger teenagers the chance to develop an ‘essential work ethic’.

According to Nina Stier, head of careers at Le Rocquier School, the summer jobs market for 16-year-olds is contracting because older teenagers who cannot get full-time work are filling summer job positions.

And Kristina Le Feuvre, owner of aMaizin! Adventure Park and president of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce, said a children’s law that was brought in in 2011 might actually be a barrier to school-age teenagers obtaining part-time work.
