Teddy, a four-month-old Airedale terrier, became so tangled beneath a garden gate in St Ouen that he began to have difficulty breathing, causing owner Lisa Oxenden-Wray to fear he might die.

She went to the pup’s aid, but could not free him and turned to the States Fire and Rescue Service for help.

Mrs Oxenden-Wray, an art conservator, said that she was hugely grateful to the department for coming to the rescue and that she was particularly thankful for the efforts of Jocelyn Le Clercq, who stayed on the phone while firefighters were dispatched.
