Planning approve a new sports centre

Politicians on the panel took what they called ‘a leap of faith’ to approve the proposals for the building, which will be used by schools, sports and community groups as well as by Jersey Rugby Football Club, élite athletes and paying gym users.

Following the hearing, former Jersey RFC director of rugby Ben Harvey, who submitted the plans, said he was very pleased.

The only resistance came from the Planning Department, which said there was no guarantee that the academy would be used by the community or school groups, but the community element was a key part of Mr Harvey’s plans, and was used to justify putting a large new building in St Peter’s protected green zone.
