Speculation has been building on social media that either John Lewis, Matalan, House of Fraser or H&M were looking at moving in to the site in King Street.
However, John Lewis, which has more than 45 outlets in Britain; fashion and homeware retailer Matalan, which has 217 stores in the UK; Swedish multinational retail-clothing company H&M; and UK department store chain House of Fraser have all confirmed to that they are not bidding for the lease.
However, hopes are still high among many Islanders that budget clothing retailer Primark could yet declare its interest in the former BHS site and since its launch last Thursday, a Facebook page entitled Jersey Wants Primark – set up by Islander and mother of two Kelly Brookes – has amassed more than 1,300 likes and has over 840 ‘friends’.
