Home-grown officer for top police job?

Not since Bob Le Breton, who left the force in 2000, has a person from Jersey been in the top job.

But Deputy Chief Officer Rob Bastable says that he and current Chief Officer Mike Bowron, who joined the force from the City of London police, where he was Commissioner, have a plan to get local talent into the top ranks in the next seven years.

Two Jersey officers – Acting Chief Inspector Matt Le Monnier and Superintendent James Wileman – are currently on a UK fast-track scheme which has enabled them to accelerate through the ranks from Detective Constable and Sergeant respectively in less than five years.
