Number of reported crimes falls

Statistics show that in the first six months of this year reported crime had fallen by nearly seven per cent compared to the same period in 2015.

Between January and June this year 1,348 crimes were reported to the police. In comparison, last year the force recorded 1,445 incidents.

Reports of crimes including burglaries, shoplifting, night-time violence, malicious damage, sexual offences and domestic assaults all fell. Shoplifting reports dropped by the most, from 99 in the first six months of last year to 55 in 2016 – a fall of 44.4 per cent year on year.
