Election candidate abandons Twitter after attack by trolls

Mary O’Keeffe-Burgher says that although she risks losing out on interacting with some supporters she is removing herself from Twitter because of scores of messages she claims to have received.

Mrs O’Keeffe-Burgher, chief executive of property firm Andium HVR Global, said that the messages had been ‘upsetting, mean and unfair’.

She has around 300 followers on Twitter and said that she had been inundated with up to 70 messages from ‘trolls’ and the harassment allegedly started after some Twitter users took a line from her manifesto about Digital Jersey and ‘spun’ it to the point that she called for any interaction to be made with her via email.
