Islanders fly to Uganda to build school block

The group are being led by veteran aid worker Dick Richomme (72), who said that the team had been spending time together in Jersey to practise construction and labour skills in recent weeks.

Over the last 12 years the JOAC has arranged four trips to the region to build a primary school, health centre and teacher accommodation.

In order to prepare for the latest part of the project, which will take place in a village called Mifumi, the team has carried out woodland management work, built a fence, repaired steps, spread seven tonnes of gravel and learned to mix concrete by hand in Jersey.

Find out more about the trip in Monday’s JEP.
