Houses are likely to replace States offices at South Hill

Under current ministerial plans, the majority of States office workers will be moved into a new office block which is planned to be created by redeveloping the La Motte Street School site in St Helier in the next few years.

Covenants are in place on the La Motte Street site, which means that it can currently be used only for educational purposes, and Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel has lodged a proposition to have the covenants overturned so that the site can be redeveloped. It is due to be debated in September.

The minister said that if the move to La Motte Street goes ahead, the South Hill site, which is home to Infrastructure and Environment Department workers, would make a good location for housing and it would probably be sold to a private developer.
