Criminal record checks for taxi drivers increase

Driver and Vehicle Standards is due to introduce regular checks in order to increase the level of protection and safety for members of the public.

Under the existing arrangement drivers need only complete one disclosure and barring service (DBS – formerly known as a CRB) check when applying for their taxi-cab public service vehicle drivers’ badge.

Now, drivers will need to undertake an ‘enhanced’ DBS check, which probes further into an individual’s background, every three years to maintain their eligibility to operate a taxi in Jersey.
