Frontline officers may go in police cutbacks

At least 34 jobs – including frontline officer roles – could go over the next three years as Chief Officer Mike Bowron looks to cut his team down to 300 employees.

Reducing the number of hours the inquiry desk is open for is another efficiency measure being considered, as is overhauling the States police’s operating model which could result in officers attending fewer minor incidents and offloading the work to other agencies.

The swathe of cuts, outlined in the recent Medium Term Financial Plan Addition which sets States spending over the next three years, are due to be debated by Members in September.
