Crowcroft: Ban alcohol in town green spaces

Fights, public urination and litter are just some of the problems plaguing the town’s parks particularly Parade Gardens and the People’s Park, according to St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft and the West of Town Community Association.

Mr Crowcroft said that banning the consumption of alcohol in parks was the only way to tackle the fact that many of these spaces had turned into ‘no-go areas’ and that he was working with the police to bring in restrictions.

Latest figures from the States police reveal that officers have been called out to Parade Gardens 239 times since 2013 for incidents involving anti-social behaviour and 178 times for ‘public order or drunkenness’.
