Eric Walker (93), who made Jersey his home after arriving with British liberating forces, passed away on Wednesday night at the General Hospital.

After sailing into the Harbour in May 1945, where he was greeted by scenes of celebration, Mr Walker was sent to the Airport to check there were no explosives preventing British planes from landing safely.

And it was also on Liberation Day that the bomb disposal officer met his first wife, Sheila, who died several years ago.
