Bella Jackson and Freddie Humphreys, who are in Reception at Grouville School, had a joint fifth birthday party at the Berni Centre in St Martin last month and their parents asked for donations to charity instead of presents.

Bella’s mother Louise explained that she had done a similar thing two years ago when her daughter Mae was one.

This time, the money has been handed over to Ruff’s Kitchens, a charity set up to feed vulnerable children in Zimbabwe.
