‘Blighted’ 1930s house could be demolished

Greencourt, off Green Street, was built in 1935 after being designed for P H Mollet, a well-known member of the Island’s Green Room Club, who sold it to former Bailiff Robert Le Masurier, who went on to sell it to the family of the current owners, but the property has suffered from a range of problems due to its age.

According to the plans the five-bed home suffers from damp, subsidence, has a leaking roof, no insulation, has only single glazing and its walls are infested by colonies of flying ants.

It became a building of local interest in 2009 and remains a potential listed building under the Island’s revised register of historic properties and now, the building’s owners are seeking permission to demolish Greencourt to allow the site to be developed at a later date.
