Lottery good causes target rising to £1m

In what would be a significant uplift for local good causes, which receive money each year via the Association of Jersey Charities, administrators at the States have set themselves the task of increasing income from the lotteries within the next five years.

Deputy Murray Norton, who has political responsibility for the area as an assistant minister for the department, said that work was under way to develop the lotteries in order to provide more money for local charities.

Each year the Jersey portion of Channel Island lottery proceeds is passed on to the Association of Jersey Charities, which hands out funds along with some of its own money to worthy causes according to applications made.
