David John Ferguson (34) attacked his mother at the Samarès Coast Hotel on 1 June.

St Clement Centenier Amanda Le Brocq told the court that during a drink-fuelled argument between the two ‘he pushed his mother, she slipped and her back hit a door handle which caused her considerable pain’.

She said that initially Ferguson denied the assault but later admitted his guilt and the honorary police officer added that the victim sustained a scratch to her back and bruising as well as swelling and abrasions on the right side of her upper back.

He was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing which is scheduled for 20 June.
