The Jersey Household Spending Survey, which was released on Friday, found that the average Jersey household spent £761 a week in 2015 compared to £724 five years earlier – an increase of four per cent.

But inflation during the period was 13 per cent, which means that spending in real terms fell by nine per cent over the five years.

Household spending in Jersey was still 43 per cent higher than in the UK, however, where the average weekly outgoing per household was £532.
