Liberation Day events revert to popular format – see the full schedule

A schedule of the events for Monday’s celebrations has been released by the Bailiff’s Office and includes the traditional commemorative ceremony in Liberation Square before a 1940s-themed event at the Weighbridge complete with food stalls and entertainment.

Last year many Islanders reacted angrily after parts of the day’s celebrations were moved to the People’s Park, meaning there would only be a ten-minute re-enactment in the Liberation Square.

Because of the public outcry, especially among Occupation survivors, the Bailiff, William Bailhache, chose to reinstate the full re-enactment, which culminates outside the Pomme d’Or Hotel and a spokesman for the Bailiff’s Office said the format would return to that of 2014 after changes were made last year to mark the 70th anniversary.
