The 41-year-old victim – who had to have a metal plate fitted in her eye socket following the attack – was assaulted by a group of about 12 men and women in the public gardens at the top of Mount Bingham on 1 August last year.

On Friday two of the gang – Kirsty Elizabeth Buchanan (20) and Terri Ann Elizabeth Allen (21) – were sentenced by the Royal Court for their part in the attack – none of the others involved have been prosecuted.

The court was told that in her victim impact statement, the woman said that she thought she was going to die during the attack and still suffers from nightmares because of it.
