A stitch just in time for the Liberation Day celebrations

The panel, which depicts how Islanders continue to remember the victims of Nazism, acts of heroism and the events of Liberation itself, was commissioned last year by Jersey Heritage to mark 70 years since the end of the Occupation.

This week the Lieutenant-Governor’s wife, Lady McColl, placed the final stitch in the panel, which has taken 100 volunteers 11 months and 3,790¼ hours to complete.

The panel was designed by Wayne Audrain and will go on permanent display in the Occupation Tapestry Gallery at the Maritime Museum in the summer and the tapestry, which includes 12 other panels created by the parishes to commemorate 50 years since the end of the Occupation, is sponsored by Benest and Syvret.
