Injured man rescued from bunker roof

The man in his 20s – a member of the Jersey Amateur Radio Club – fell on to the old Signal Station at La Moye built by the occupying forces during the Second World War and now used as a club house for the JARC – he had been working on the ladder when it slipped from the building, sending him crashing down on to the concrete roof.

An ambulance, fire engine and two rope rescue response units from the Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident with two paramedics and 11 firefighters at around 3.30 pm and the paramedics stabilised the man and made him comfortable while the firefighters rigged up a series of ropes to lower him in a stretcher down the outside of the bunker, before Green watch rope rescue instructor Simon Gilley then guided the stretcher eight metres down the side of the building.

Saturday was also busy for the emergency services, with the Fire and Rescue Service dealing with two small blazes, two road accidents, a false alarm and a seagull rescue in a matter of hours.
