Death of former States Member Don Filleul

FORMER States Member and Jersey Heritage chairman Don Filleul OBE died aged 90 at Jersey Hospice on Sunday.

Ex-Chief Minister Frank Walker paid tribute to his close friend and said that the Island owed a 'huge debt of gratitude' to the former Deputy, and said that one of his greatest achievements, among many, had been the creation of the Queen's Valley Reservoir.

During his political career, Mr Filleul represented St Helier No 1 from 1978 to 1987, served as president of the Public Works Committee, which is now the Infrastructure Department, and also chaired Jersey Heritage and the Waterfront Enterprise Board, as well as being an active fundraiser for the Channel Islands Air Search.

He was awarded the OBE for his services to Jersey Heritage.
