1,400 new homes needed over next three years to meet demand

The Jersey Future Housing Needs survey, released on Wednesday, has indicated that Jersey will not meet the requirement for private housing over the next few years, with a particular shortfall – 780 units – of two-bedroom homes available to buy.

But the report, which is produced by the States’ Statistics Unit, also indicated that while many Islanders may wish to buy property, more than half would be unable to afford the type of property they desire.

Around 4,500 Island households indicated that they wanted to buy a new home in the next three years, but only 2,700 had sufficient finance to do so based on their income level and the current availability of credit, according to the survey.
