Job-cuts questions in the States

Deputy Eddie Noel will field seven oral questions from backbenchers relating to staff cutbacks as he seeks to find £4.6 million of savings from his department’s £25 million annual budget.

His chief officer, John Rogers, told a Scrutiny panel this week that he expected that the department would shed 100 of its 500-strong workforce through voluntary and compulsory redundancies, and the department also plans to outsource some of its services and recently advertised for private contractors to approach them.

The minister will be asked, among other things, how many parks and garden staff face redundancy due to outsourcing, what the timetable for outsourcing services is and what has been the outcome of his negotiations with the unions.
